How pallet sizes are written
North American pallets are sized in inches with length first: the length of the stringers (or stringerboards on a block pallet). ISO and European pallets are sized in millimetres. The height is usually left off the size and given separately. See how to measure a pallet, dimension order and the full pallet sizes chart.
Frequently asked questions
What is 48 × 40 inches in mm?
1219.2 × 1016 mm, usually written 1219 × 1016 mm. It is one of the six ISO 6780 pallet sizes.
What is a EUR pallet in inches?
1200 × 800 mm is 47.24 × 31.50 in, and its 144 mm height is 5.67 in.
What is 1200 × 1000 mm in inches?
47.24 × 39.37 in. It is close to a 48 × 40 in pallet but about 3/4 in shorter and 5/8 in narrower, so the two are not interchangeable in tight racking.
Why does the order of the dimensions matter?
The first number is the length of the stringers or stringerboards, which sets how the pallet is built and which way forks enter. 48 × 40 and 40 × 48 have the same footprint but different construction.
