Requesting a quote
Click Request quote, enter your name and work email, confirm quantity and delivery, and send. We price that exact revision with vetted partner shops and reply within 2 business days. Shops never see your contact details, and you deal only with pallet.design.
When the design is ready, request a quote from inside the designer. pallet.design works as a broker: every request comes to us, we price it with vetted partner shops, and we reply to you with a price. You never have to find, contact or chase pallet manufacturers.
Before you send
Fill in the sections that affect price. The pricing team quotes what the design says.
| Section | Fields that change the price |
|---|---|
| Construction | Lumber species, grade and moisture; fastener type; board counts and sizes |
| Load & handling | Load per pallet and type, handling equipment, racking and beam span, floor stack height, reusable or one-way, freezer, outdoor, washdown |
| Compliance & marking | Export (ISPM-15), Certified rating, Food contact, Fire listing, Retailer / program spec, Marking and marking text |
| Order | Quantity, Annual volume, Releases, Ship-to ZIP, Needed by, Target price, Notes for the shop |
Clear every error in the Checks tab first. The form lists them under "Fix before sending:" and keeps Send request disabled until they are resolved. Warnings don't block a request. See Design checks.
For export pallets, set Export (ISPM-15) to Heat treated (HT). Heat treatment and marking then appear in the drawing notes and the quote. See Heat-treated pallets.
The quote form
Click Request quote in the top bar, or the button at the bottom of the Properties tab. The form says: "Free, no obligation. We price this exact revision with partner shops and reply within 2 business days."
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | |
| Work email | Yes | Our reply goes here. |
| Company | No | |
| Phone | No | |
| Quantity | Always set (defaults to 500) | Pieces in this order. |
| Annual volume | No | Helps price repeat business. |
| Ship-to ZIP | No, but recommended | Freight is part of the price. |
| Needed by | No | Date as YYYY-MM-DD. |
| Notes | No | Anything else: current problems, delivery constraints, an earlier request code. |
The order fields in the form are the same fields as the Order section, so editing either updates both. A human-verification check may appear before you can send. Then click Send request.
Messages you might see: "Enter your name and a valid work email." (fix the contact fields), "Too many requests. Wait a minute and try again.", or "We couldn't verify you're human. Refresh the page and try again."
After you send
The form changes to Request sent and shows the request code, the revision, "Quote due: within 2 business days", and the email we will reply to. Open request goes to your private request page; Keep designing closes the form.
The request page shows the drawing and spec exactly as sent, the status ("Queued" or "With pricing team"), and a short spec hash that identifies the exact revision. It has Download drawing PDF once the PDF is ready (usually within a minute), and Open a copy in the designer. Bookmark the page: pallet.design doesn't send automatic confirmation emails, so the link is your record.
Within 2 business days we reply to your work email with a price for that exact design, built by one of our partner shops.
Who sees what
| Party | Sees |
|---|---|
| pallet.design | The design, your contact details and your notes |
| Partner shops | The drawing and spec (including your notes), without your name, email, phone or company |
| You | Your request page and our reply |
You deal only with pallet.design, from quote through order. We price with the shops, add our margin, and give you one price.
Load ratings and certified reports
The designer doesn't calculate load capacity. Ratings come from the manufacturer that builds the pallet, because capacity depends on support conditions, lumber and load. If you need a formal rating, set Certified rating:
- PDS report (for example, required by Costco): an analysis from a partner licensed to use PDS, the Pallet Design System from Woodpack Global. See Costco pallet requirements.
- Load test (ASTM / ISO): a physical test, for example to ASTM D1185.
The report is included in the quote. See Pallet load capacity.
Plastic and catalog pallets
For molded plastic and presswood, you describe requirements and the supplier proposes a catalog model that meets them. Enter the minimum static, dynamic and racking ratings you need. If you have a model in mind, put it in Reference model and tick Or equal is fine if an equivalent is acceptable.
For help deciding what to specify, read How to spec a custom pallet and the pallet RFQ checklist. For typical price ranges, see Pallet cost.
Frequently asked questions
Does a quote request cost anything or commit me to buy?
No. The request and the quote are free and carry no obligation.
Will the pallet shop contact me?
No. Requests come to pallet.design. We price them with partner shops, and the shops see the drawing and spec without your name or contact details. Our reply comes from pallet.design.
Can I get a certified load rating?
Yes. Set Certified rating in Compliance & marking to PDS report or Load test (ASTM / ISO). The rating or report is included in the quote. Load ratings always come from the manufacturer that builds the pallet.
I changed my design after sending. What now?
Send a new request. Each request is fixed to the exact design you sent, so the price matches the drawing. Mention the earlier request code in the notes.

Send the same package to every supplier so quotes compare.
- GuidesHow to spec a custom pallet: the fields that decide the designSpecify a custom pallet in two parts. First the requirements: load weight and type, footprint, how it is handled, racked and stacked, environment, export rules and trips. Then the design: construction, board sizes, lumber species, grade, moisture and fasteners. A manufacturer can rate and price a spec with both.
- GuidesHow much does a pallet cost? New, used, plastic and custom pricesIn the US in 2026, a new 48 × 40 in wood stringer pallet typically costs about $10–25, a used Grade A about $6–14 and a Grade B about $3–8. Heat treatment adds about $1–3. Plastic pallets run roughly $40–200 and metal $150–600 or more. These are estimates that move with lumber, resin and freight markets; get quotes.
- DocsDesign checks: every rule, what it means and how to fix itThe designer runs geometry, Uniform Standard and practicality checks as you edit. Errors (red) mean the pallet can't be built as drawn and block a quote request. Warnings (amber) flag likely problems. Passes (green) confirm a rule is met or add a note.
- GlossaryRFQ (request for quote)An RFQ (request for quote) is a buyer's request asking suppliers to price a defined product at stated quantities and terms. For pallets, a complete RFQ includes the pallet specification or requirements, volumes, delivery, compliance needs and quality rules.
- GuidesCostco pallet requirements: pooled block pallets and purpose-built exceptionsCostco requires iGPS, PECO or CHEP block pallets throughout North America and refuses GMA/Grade A stringer, CHEP stringer, CHEP Euro and corrugated pallets. Purpose-built pallets need advance approval per item; Costco's published supplement requires them to be designed with PDS.

- DocsParts list, board feet, weight and fastener countsBoard feet are the sum of thickness × width × length ÷ 144 over every wood part, in actual inches, with no deduction for notches. Weight is board feet × a pounds-per-board-foot factor for the species and moisture. Fastener counts follow the Uniform Standard minimums by board width.
- DocsSharing and printing a pallet designShare copies a link that contains the entire design in the URL hash, so nothing is stored on our servers. Anyone with the link sees the drawing, spec and checks, and can print it or open a copy in the designer. Print drawing prints the 17 × 11 in sheet or saves it as a PDF.
