Sharing and printing a pallet design
Share copies a link that contains the entire design in the URL hash, so nothing is stored on our servers. Anyone with the link sees the drawing, spec and checks, and can print it or open a copy in the designer. Print drawing prints the 17 × 11 in sheet or saves it as a PDF.
You can send a design to a colleague, a customer or a supplier without creating an account or uploading anything. The design travels inside the link.
Sharing a link
Click Share in the top bar. The designer copies a link like pallet.design/s#… to your clipboard and shows "Share link copied". If your browser blocks clipboard access, a box opens with the link so you can copy it yourself.
Everything after the # is the full design, compressed. Browsers don't send that part of a URL to the server, so we never receive or store a shared design. Share pages are also marked so search engines don't index them.
A share link contains the whole design, including the Order section: quantity, annual volume, ship-to ZIP, needed-by date, target price and notes. Clear anything you don't want the recipient to see before you click Share. Your name and email are never part of a share link.
What the recipient sees
The share page shows, under the heading "Shared drawing":
- the design name;
- the full ANSI B drawing sheet, with DWG NO. set to SHARED;
- the spec in four groups (Pallet, Construction, Requirements, Order);
- the design checks.
It has two buttons: Print, and Open in designer, which opens an editable copy. Changes to the copy don't affect the original link.
If the link was cut off in transit (some email programs wrap long URLs), the page says "This link is incomplete. Ask the sender to copy the share link again." Send it as a clickable link, or paste it into a chat, rather than as wrapped plain text.
Printing the drawing
Click Print drawing in the top bar. The designer switches to the Drawing tab and opens your browser's print dialog. The page is set to 17 × 11 in (ANSI B, also sold as tabloid or ledger) with no margins, and only the drawing sheet prints.
| You want | Do this in the print dialog |
|---|---|
| A PDF file | Choose Save as PDF (or Microsoft Print to PDF) as the destination. |
| A full-size print | Select a printer and 11 × 17 paper. |
| A letter or A4 print | Choose landscape and fit to page. Text is smaller but legible. |
The printed sheet has the same views, parts list, notes and title block as on screen. See The drawing sheet.
On a share page, Print does the same thing.
Your local draft
The designer saves your current design in this browser as you work; the status bar shows "draft saved locally". To get it back after closing the tab, open pallet.design/draft. The draft is not uploaded and is not available on another device or browser. Opening any template link (including reloading a template page) or opening a shared link in the designer replaces it. A share link is the reliable way to keep a design.
After you request a quote
Once you request a quote, the design is saved with your request and you get a private request page. It shows the drawing and spec exactly as sent, a Download drawing PDF button once the PDF is ready (usually within a minute; until then the button is Print drawing), and Open a copy in the designer. See Requesting a quote.
Using the drawing with other suppliers
The drawing and share link are yours. If you run your own RFQ, attach the PDF and include the share link so each supplier sees the same revision. The pallet RFQ checklist lists the other information suppliers ask for.
Frequently asked questions
Does a share link expire?
No. The design is inside the link itself, so it works as long as the link is intact. There is nothing on our side to expire or delete.
If I change the design, does the shared link update?
No. A share link is a snapshot. Click Share again after making changes and send the new link.
Can I send a share link to my own pallet supplier?
Yes. The link is yours to use however you like. It shows the drawing and full spec, and the recipient doesn't need an account.
