The 24 × 20 in pallet (610 × 508 mm) is the North American quarter pallet. Four of them fill a 48 × 40 footprint. It is used for small, pre-built retail displays that go straight onto the sales floor, often at the end of an aisle or next to a register.
What are the dimensions of a 24 × 20 pallet?
A 24 × 20 quarter pallet is 24 in (610 mm) long and 20 in (508 mm) wide, about 3.3 sq ft of deck. Height depends on the model: plastic quarter pallets are often around 5 to 6 in (127 to 152 mm), and wood builds about 4.75 in.
Typical builds at 24 × 20
| Build | Typical spec |
|---|---|
| Molded plastic | Light display base, 4-way entry for pallet jacks, often with a retailer-required color |
| Wood stringer | 4 or 5 top boards, 20 in long; 3 bottom boards; 2 stringers 1-3/8 × 3-1/2 × 24 in |
Wood quarter pallets have short stringers, so they are usually 2-way (no notches). You can draw one in the designer by starting from the half-pallet template and shortening it to 24 in.
How much does a 24 × 20 pallet weigh?
A wood build as above uses about 4.2 board feet: roughly 9 lb (4 kg) in dry softwood up to about 18 lb (8 kg) in green hardwood (estimates). Plastic quarter pallets vary by model; take the tare from the maker's data sheet. For comparison, CHEP's European 600 × 400 mm plastic quarter display pallet is listed at 2.2 kg.
How much weight can a 24 × 20 pallet hold?
Quarter pallet displays are light by pallet standards, and the practical limit is usually set by the retailer's display rules and by stability, since a tall display on a small base tips easily. Get the pallet maker's rating for your load, and check the retailer's weight and height rules. See pallet load capacity.
Who uses 24 × 20 pallets?
- Mass merchants and club stores: Walmart, Sam's Club and others set quarter pallet display footprints and heights in their supplier guides. See Walmart pallet requirements.
- Consumer brands and display makers: promotional and seasonal displays. See display pallet.
Retailer display rules change. Use the retailer's current guide, not a copy from a supplier's website.
Fit in trucks and containers
Quarter pallets normally travel as groups of four on a 48 × 40 footprint, so trailer counts match a full pallet: 26 straight or 30 turned positions in a 53 ft trailer. The table above counts single quarter pallets for reference.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a quarter pallet?
In North America a quarter pallet is 24 × 20 in (610 × 508 mm), one quarter of a 48 × 40. In Europe the quarter pallet is 600 × 400 mm, one quarter of a 1200 × 800 Euro pallet.
Are quarter pallets plastic or wood?
Most are molded plastic, because they are light, clean and roll out onto sales floors. Wood quarter pallets exist, usually as small 2-stringer builds.
How many quarter pallets make a full pallet?
Four 24 × 20 quarter pallets fill a 48 × 40 footprint, and displays are often shipped that way on a full pallet or as a tied group.
How tall can a quarter pallet display be?
The height limit is set by the retailer's display rules, not by the pallet. Walmart's display rules, for example, include a height limit for quarter pallet displays. Get the current number from the retailer's supplier guide.
