Pallet sizes in mm and cm: metric chart of all common sizes

Summary

The most common pallet sizes in metric are 1200 × 800 mm (120 × 80 cm, Euro pallet), 1200 × 1000 mm (120 × 100 cm), 1219 × 1016 mm (121.9 × 101.6 cm, the 48 × 40 in GMA pallet), 1165 × 1165 mm (Australia) and 1100 × 1100 mm (Asia). North American sizes are defined in inches and convert to odd millimetre values.

This chart gives every common pallet size in millimetres, centimetres and inches. Sizes that originate in Europe, Asia and Australia are defined in millimetres. North American sizes are defined in inches, so their metric values are conversions (1 in = 25.4 mm) and are usually rounded to the nearest millimetre.

Pallets marked ISO are the six footprints in ISO 6780. See ISO pallet sizes.

Other CP pallet sizes

The European chemical-industry CP pallets add several metric sizes. Dimensions and heights are EPAL's.

Pallet mm cm Height
CP1 1000 × 1200 100 × 120 138 mm
CP2 800 × 1200 80 × 120 138 mm
CP4 1100 × 1300 110 × 130 138 mm
CP5 760 × 1140 76 × 114 138 mm
CP6 1200 × 1000 120 × 100 156 mm
CP7 1300 × 1100 130 × 110 156 mm

Pallet heights in mm and cm

Height is not part of the size name, but it matters for trailer and rack clearance.

Converting between inches and millimetres

  • Inches to mm: multiply by 25.4. 48 in = 1219.2 mm; 40 in = 1016 mm.
  • mm to inches: divide by 25.4. 1200 mm = 47.24 in; 800 mm = 31.50 in.
  • mm to cm: divide by 10.

Because the North American sizes are defined in inches, a "1219 × 1016 mm" pallet is really 48 × 40 in, and a 1200 × 1000 mm pallet is not the same as a 48 × 40: it is about 19 mm shorter and 16 mm narrower. That difference is enough to matter in automated racking and conveyors. For any size, use the pallet size converter. To check a real pallet, see how to measure a pallet.

Which convention states length first?

North American practice states the stringer (or stringerboard) length first: 48 × 40 means 48 in stringers. EPAL lists the Euro pallet as 800 × 1200 mm, putting the 800 mm stringerboard length first, which follows the same logic. Many metric charts, including this one, put the longer side first instead. When it matters, show the board direction on a drawing. See dimension order.

Frequently asked questions

What is a standard pallet size in cm?

In Europe, 120 × 80 cm (the Euro pallet). In the UK, 120 × 100 cm. In North America, 121.9 × 101.6 cm (48 × 40 in). In Australia, 116.5 × 116.5 cm. In Japan and Korea, 110 × 110 cm.

What is 48 x 40 inches in mm?

1219.2 × 1016 mm, usually written 1219 × 1016 mm. It is one of the six ISO 6780 sizes.

What is the height of a Euro pallet in cm?

14.4 cm (144 mm) for an EPAL 1.

How do I convert pallet sizes from inches to mm?

Multiply inches by 25.4. For example, 42 in × 25.4 = 1066.8 mm, usually written 1067 mm. The pallet size converter does this for any size.
