600 × 400 pallet (quarter pallet): dimensions, weight and specs
A 600 × 400 mm pallet (23.6 × 15.7 in) is the European quarter pallet: a quarter of a 1200 × 800 Euro pallet. Most are plastic display pallets or wheeled dollies. CHEP's plastic quarter display pallet is 600 × 400 × 145 mm, weighs 2.2 kg and is rated 250 kg safe working load.

The 600 × 400 mm pallet (23.6 × 15.7 in) is the European quarter pallet. Four fill a 1200 × 800 Euro pallet, and two fill an 800 × 600 half pallet. Most 600 × 400 pallets are plastic display pallets or wheeled dollies used in grocery and discount retail.
What are the dimensions of a 600 × 400 pallet?
A 600 × 400 pallet is 600 mm (23.6 in) by 400 mm (15.7 in), 0.24 m² of deck. Heights vary by model. CHEP lists its plastic quarter display pallet at 600 × 400 × 145 mm, and a wheeled version at 173 mm for some European markets.
The size is the base module of European retail packaging. Crates and cases at 600 × 400, 400 × 300 and 300 × 200 mm stack exactly onto quarter, half and full Euro pallets, which is why this footprint shows up in fresh produce, bakery and dairy crates.
Typical builds at 600 × 400
| Build | Typical features |
|---|---|
| Plastic display pallet | Injection-molded, 4-way entry, light; for shelf-ready displays |
| Plastic dolly | Castors under a 600 × 400 deck; crates are wheeled into store |
| Wooden quarter pallet | Small block pallet, typically with a board deck on blocks |
Wooden quarter pallets can be modeled as a small block pallet. Start from the EPAL 1 template and resize it in the designer.
How much does a 600 × 400 pallet weigh?
Plastic display pallets are very light: CHEP lists 2.2 kg (4.9 lb) for its 600 × 400 display pallet. Dollies weigh more because of the castors. A wooden quarter pallet usually weighs a few kilograms, depending on board thickness and species (estimate). See pallet weight.
How much weight can a 600 × 400 pallet hold?
CHEP rates its plastic 600 × 400 display pallet at 250 kg safe working load and says loaded pallets should not exceed 800 kg when stacked on a solid, flat surface. Other makers publish their own ratings. Quarter pallet displays rarely approach those limits, because stability limits the height first. See pallet load capacity.
Who uses 600 × 400 pallets?
- European grocery and discount retail: promotional displays and shelf-ready merchandising. See display pallet.
- Fresh produce, bakery and dairy: crate stacks on dollies.
- Consumer goods brands: quarter-pallet displays built by display makers.
Fit in trucks and containers
Quarter pallets travel grouped on a full Euro pallet footprint or on a carrier pallet, so truck counts follow the Euro pallet (33 positions in a 13.6 m trailer). The table above counts single 600 × 400 pallets.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a quarter Euro pallet?
600 × 400 mm (23.6 × 15.7 in). Four fill a 1200 × 800 Euro pallet footprint.
Are 600x400 pallets plastic or wood?
Most are plastic display pallets or wheeled dollies, because they go straight onto shop floors. Wooden 600 × 400 pallets exist but are less common.
How much can a 600x400 quarter pallet hold?
CHEP rates its plastic 600 × 400 display pallet at 250 kg safe working load and 800 kg when stacked loaded on a solid floor. Other makers publish their own ratings.
Why is 600x400 a common size?
600 × 400 mm is the base module of European retail packaging. Cases and crates sized to 600 × 400 and its fractions (400 × 300, 300 × 200) tile exactly onto Euro and half pallets.

- SizesQuarter pallet: dimensions and uses (24 × 20 and 600 × 400)A quarter pallet is a quarter of a region's standard pallet. In North America it is 24 × 20 in (610 × 508 mm), a quarter of a 48 × 40. In Europe it is 600 × 400 mm (23.6 × 15.7 in), a quarter of a 1200 × 800 Euro pallet. Most are plastic display pallets for retail floors.
- Sizes800 × 600 pallet (half Euro pallet): dimensions, weight and specsAn 800 × 600 mm pallet (31.5 × 23.6 in) is the half Euro pallet, half of a 1200 × 800. EPAL makes two versions: the EPAL 6 (144 mm tall, 750 kg safe working load) and the EPAL 7 (163 mm tall, 500 kg), both about 9.5 kg. It is used for retail display and small loads.
- Sizes1200 × 800 pallet (Euro pallet): dimensions, weight and specsA 1200 × 800 mm pallet (47.2 × 31.5 in) is the Euro pallet, standardized as EPAL 1 / EUR 1 and one of the six ISO 6780 sizes. The EPAL 1 is 144 mm tall, weighs about 25 kg, and has a safe working load of 1,500 kg. It is the standard pallet for European retail and food logistics.
- Sizes24 × 20 quarter pallet: dimensions, weight and specsA 24 × 20 in pallet (610 × 508 mm) is the North American quarter pallet: one quarter of a 48 × 40. It is used for small retail floor displays that sit on the sales floor. Most are molded plastic; wood versions exist and weigh roughly 9 to 18 lb.
- TypesDisplay pallets: half (48 × 20) and quarter (24 × 20) palletsA display pallet is a small pallet that carries product straight onto a store floor as a ready-made display. North American sizes are the 48 × 20 in (1219 × 508 mm) half pallet and 24 × 20 in (610 × 508 mm) quarter pallet; in Europe, the 800 × 600 mm EPAL 6. Retailers set their own rules.
- TypesPlastic pallets: types, materials, load ratings and how to buy themA plastic pallet is a molded or fabricated pallet made from HDPE or polypropylene. Types range from light nestable pallets (about 14–30 lb) to reinforced rackable pallets (about 35–70 lb). They are washable, ISPM 15 exempt and long-lived, cost several times more than wood, and carry three separate load ratings.

- Sizes1200 × 1000 pallet: dimensions, weight and specsA 1200 × 1000 mm pallet (47.2 × 39.4 in) is the UK standard pallet and the industrial pallet in Europe and Asia. It is one of the six ISO 6780 sizes. EPAL makes it as the EPAL 2 (162 mm, about 35 kg) and EPAL 3 (144 mm, about 30 kg); CHEP's UK wooden pallet is 162 mm tall and 28 kg.
- Sizes1140 × 1140 pallet (CP3, CP8, CP9): dimensions, weight and specsA 1140 × 1140 mm pallet (44.9 × 44.9 in) is the square chemical-industry pallet, made as the CP3 (138 mm tall), CP8 and CP9 (156 mm tall). It carries drums, octabins and bulk bags, and two fit side by side inside an ISO shipping container.
- Sizes1100 × 1100 pallet (T11): dimensions, weight and specsA 1100 × 1100 mm pallet (43.3 × 43.3 in) is the Asian standard pallet, known as T11. It is one of the six ISO 6780 sizes and the standard pool pallet in Japan (JIS Z 0601, 1100 × 1100 × 144 mm), and is also a national standard size in Korea and China.
